Feeding Cherries to Cerberus-Fotd
Cerberus guards the door to the underworld. In some legends he is the boatman that takes you down the river Styx. In others he is the three headed dog that eats your soul if you cannot pay the way to the after life. This was my mistake. I was a young teen when I died, it wasn't a tragic death or a brave one I passed away in my sleep from an aneurysm. This may seem like a stupid way to die but it's a normal thing that happens to people. Or at least that's what the Doctor's told my parents after the autopsy, I was just hanging around for a few days to see what my funeral was going to be like.
I had died with a pocket full of cherries in my night gown. I intended to eat them in the middle of the night, stolen from my grandfather's fruit farm. I guess death had a better plan for me. I don't recall much about the whole dying bit. Just some nice white lights, a soft surface and a warm embrace. I wasn't in heaven though, I had to pass the gates to the underworld to get where I was going.
My funeral was short. My friends all came and cried, my boyfriend who I had just started to like also cried. He stayed with my parents telling them how much he'll miss me and yadda this and yadda that. To be honest he was a good guy just a little long winded. I knew he'd tell everyone I was his soul mate or something that way he could get out of class work. I knew after a bit of time everyone including my parents would move on so I'd better do the same.
The Gates were like nothing I had ever seen before. Wrought iron with spikes would seem threatening but to me it held a comforting type of fear. All one has to do is push open the gates, walk down the steps to the river and board the boat. The boatmen would take you only if you could pay. Swallowing I grasped at the cherries in my pocket hoping they would be enough. The stairs were short despite the tales of miles and miles of decent. I skipped down them in a second, smiling at the kindly old man who sat at the helm of a great sailing ship.
"Mind your manners young lady. Pay the fine." He said tapping the side of the boat. There was a little sign near his fingers that read "Yee who don't pay, get the hell away." Dark humor? Great, this is going to be fun. I dropped two of the cherries into his out stretched palm and ran on to the boat.
The boatman shrugged and started off towards the dark tunnel of heaven or was it hell?

Hey guys the giveaway is closed! I'll be putting all the names into a hat and pulling them out. The tutorial is coming today once I finish writing up the steps. I have an exam in logic and my English class so I'm doing this between studying. Yesterday I doubt I could have written this because my head was so full of logic I couldn't think. Thankfully the muse has returned to me. :3 I hope you all entered! If you'd like to add a late entry just e-mail me at Pixiealamode at gmail dot com.

Pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteBlahh Logic, no fun. I feel you there. haha
I've never heard of Cerberus being referred to as the boatman on the river Styx, although the number of heads (usually three) sometimes varies, between one and fifty. I think that guy's name is Charon, I'd have to check my mythology books.
ReplyDeleteStill, awesome look. I love red eyeshadow.
LOVE how this turned out! I love the red and burgundy.
